Sectioning

In addition to standard metallographic preparation techniques, our laboratory has developed and refined the microsection preparation process for a variety of difficult to prepare samples; for example, complete drug delivery devices or water soluble items such as gelatine capsules. We have prepared high quality sections through high aspect ratio (HAR) small diameter plated through-holes (PTH), blind via holes in, and ball grid arrays (BGA) on, printed circuit boards (PCB), etc

Optical Microscopy

Used for dimensional measurements of features down to 1 micron in size, assessment of microstructures, inspection of defects.

Digital photomicrographs of features can be obtained at up to x1000 optical magnification.

SEM & EDAX

Scanning electron microscopy provides valuable topographical and compositional information about samples. The combination of SEM with powerful EDX analysis techniques provides unique qualitative and quantitative data that can be displayed in a variety of ways, as spectra, numerical data, line scans and X-ray dot maps showing the distribution of elements. A high resolution Oxford Instruments Link Pentafet EDX detector ensures detection of light elements down to boron (Z=5) and all heavier elements.
